ICE BASED AIR CONDITIONING: We continually examine technological advances in
energy conservation. One of the projects our Philadelphia Architect managed was a
Ice Making System for air conditioning the Sanctuary for a Gothic church building in
the Germantown section of Philadelphia. PA. The system involves installing storage
tanks to house ice that is make locally during off peek PECO Energy time at a very
low electric energy rate. Basically, you make ice at night during the week to use to
absorb heat energy on Sunday morning. The only energy cost experienced on
Sunday is to run the fan. Some states provide tax credits for this type of energy
usage to encourage smoothing electricity demand for office building use.
